Grover Dunn is a native of Bessemer, Alabama. He is a
graduate of Abrams High School. Dunn
earned his B.S. from Alabama A&M University, his M.S. from the University
of Montevallo and an A.A. from the University of Alabama.
Dunn spent 27 years in public education as a classroom teacher,
coach and finally as Principal of Jess Lanier High School.
In 1990, Dunn was elected to the Bessemer City Council where
he served as Councilor at Large for one term. In 1993, Dunn was appointed Deputy
Probate Judge for Jefferson County. He served in that capacity until 2001 when
he was appointed Assistant Tax Collector for Jefferson County.
Grover Dunn serves as Chairman of the Jefferson County
Democratic Conference, he also serves as Parliamentarian of the Concerned Citizens
of Bessemer. Dunn is a member of the Bessemer Airport Authority, he is on the
Board of Directors of Girls Inc. He is also a member of the Jefferson County
Retired Teachers Association, the Alabama Education Association and the National Education
Association.
Dunn is married to the former Priscilla Proffitt. Mrs. Dunn serves in
the Alabama House of Representatives. The Dunns have one daughter, Karen Burks,
and one Grandson, Grover Burks. Dunn is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
in Bessemer.
